There Is Wisdom In Not Knowing
Purpose is not always about knowing the end goal.
Purpose is about coming home to yourself.
It is a state of being.
Of knowing who you are.
As you change and grow, purpose is about being able to recognize or rather locate where you are in that process and identify more of who you are becoming.
To see that you are becoming new again.
The difficulty with purpose is that often the idea of it can feel lofty, overly intellectual, or impractical.
To keep purpose relevant and real in our day to day lives we have to work with it. We have to harness the energy of purpose and bring it into being by living more intentionally, honoring the subtle ways our attention goes off track, and remembering what’s alive within us.
To bring new purposes into being we have to become more conscious about how our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors stray from what we feel and know intuitively.
Purpose can feel like a spark of inspiration or a moment that’s totally breaking us down. Both have the potential to bring cutting clarity and move us from an old way of being into a new way of being.
When we choose to stay conscious we develop capacity for new and different choice points to emerge.
Whether by ecstatic revelation or devastating upheaval we have an invitation to choose who we will become. In practicing present moment awareness we develop the capacity to choose from personal truth and agency rather than fear or skepticism.
Sometimes, and maybe even the majority of the time, we don’t feel ready. The new possibility feels uncomfortable, unfamiliar, less certain. Something from our past experience deems this new feeling, trajectory, possibility a risk or an inevitable failure.
So we hesitate.
And, yet, this part, this inner no, is very much part of the process to getting clear on your YES. This is the moment we want to pay attention to.
Here we practice holding our attention, gently giving space to the voices that don’t yet believe and are not quite ready, and choose to stretch into and beyond them. We move through anyway, in the direction that calls to us, even in face of all that whispers “not yet”.
What we know deep in our hearts is alive and possible.
It is what guides us.
As faint or as tested as this truth may have been, it is the part of us, nonetheless, that knows. It is the place within we learn to trust. It is the inner voice we are listening for.
Doubt is not an indication that we can’t or shouldn’t. It is a signal that we have been presented with something that is acting upon us and expanding us beyond our comfort zone. Asking us to grow beyond what we already know and let go of what we’ve habitually chosen.
Doubt is a seed that gives way to the growth and gift of self-trust.
When we meet ourselves fully and show up for the healing process we have a chance to move through from the wound to the gift. We choose to face our doubts and fears to overcome them. We meet ourselves with compassion to change.
By getting present with what IS we have the ability to explore what our alternatives are. By getting quiet inside and intuitively skillful we can begin to feel what self-acceptance is.
The choice to change lingers in the space between our past and our future. Within the cultivated, tender, and self-aware present moment lives the option to choose differently. To choose ourselves. To choose the life we are meant to have.
Practice delivers us to the present moment where awareness gives birth to thriving.
Practice is the gateway, the mirror, the portal.
It is our inner state of presence and awareness where we anchor new intentional choices and outcomes for our life. It is where we have capacity to weave a whole new reality into time.
