Becoming a Healer.

Being a healer is not just about what you do - its about who you are becoming.

I remember the first time I shared my intuitive healing gifts with the public.

I was met with total curiosity and skepticism at the same time.

Inwardly I was challenged. Silently I felt judged. I went from elated and enthusiastic to cautious and questioning.

Did I do the right thing?  Did I just out myself to a crowd of people that would never trust me again?

What happened in that moment was a feeling of shame wrapped itself around my intuitive abilities. I felt how deeply the beliefs and opinions of others struck as judgements against my inner self.  I felt vulnerable and alone.

Looking back I see how this moment shaped me.

The resistance I encountered both stopped me and expanded me onto my path to becoming a healer.

At that time, in 2009, I was not aware of the journey I would take to unwind the shame I had felt around my gifts as a healer. All I knew was that something deep inside stirred my heart awake.

The healing path that unfolded is what has brought me to the healing and coaching work I do today.

It has been a path of both personal development and professional evolution and it continues to be a process of opening to my gifts, accepting myself, and actively stepping into a role of helping others who are on a similar path.

What I love about the path of being a healer is how it continually opens my eyes to the tenderness we all share when we OPEN to others. Whether intimately or professionally there is always an element of fear and awe when the young one inside is seen for the first time (all over again) by someone new.

It is a risk to open.

It takes courage.

It takes knowing ourselves to be authentically vulnerable with others.

As healers we are also innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs. We straddle many worlds.

The possibilities we SEE for healing can be incredibly expansive and, at the same time, we are met with the very real challenge to stay grounded on our course - a path, at times, whereby we feel misunderstood.

Knowing yourself by continually developing your self-awareness is essential for having healthy perspective.

In today’s energetic and psychological climate it is so very common for intuitive and energetically sensitive people to report feeling overwhelmed. Regularly prioritizing your wellbeing is the first step in alleviating some of the paralysis you may feel. Secondly, preserving and nurturing your spiritual and creative energy is a must. Learning how to remain discerning about what is actually healthy and helpful for the path you are on is part of the practice.

Using your your gifts wisely means learning how to open, getting grounded in who you are, and understanding the gifts you have are yours to develop. It requires self-responsibility and knowing where to put the effort in. It means making space for practice. It means learning self-respect.

If we are to OPEN in ways that positively move our life forward we need to feel safely guided.

We need to feel supported. We need to tend to the steady ground under our feet. We need to learn how to open with intention.

Yours for the journey,

Andrea
